Aaron B. Koontz,
co-writer/director,
"Scare Package II:
Rad Chad's Revenge"
![]() Not even receiving a fatal punch through the face by the Devil’s Lake Impaler can keep Austin’s favorite video store owner Rad Chad down and out. The proprietor of Rad Chad’s Horror Emporium and the world’s biggest Joe Bob Briggs fan—as well as the breakout star of co-writer/director Aaron B. Koontz’s horror comedy anthology Scare Package—may be dead but that cannot stop him from sharing his love of horror from beyond the grave. In Koontz’s Scare Package II: Rad Chad’s Revenge, Chad Buckley make a posthumous return to play a game in a sequel that both celebrates the Saw franchise and pokes fun at its twisted and convoluted mythology. At the end of Rad Chad’s funeral, some of his friends, family, customers, and business associates are drugged, abducted, and imprisoned in an abandoned warehouse. They must work together to escape a serious of traps if they are to survive the night. Each trap ties into a classic horror film and/one of Scare Package II’s four segments. Alexandra Barreto directs Welcome to the 90s, which dissects final girl tropes. Jed Shepherd, the writer of Host, reunites that found footage chiller’s cast for Special Edition, a riff on the Three Men and a Baby ghost urban legend. Rachele Wiggins offers her spin on Re-Animator among other 1980s classics with We're So Dead. Scare Package’s Anthony Cousins returns with The Night He Came Back Again! Part VI: The Night She Came Back, a sequel to his The Night He Came Back Again! Part IV - The Final Kill, which once again pits the segment’s final girl Daisy against an unstoppable serial killer. Boasting an ensemble cast mostly straight out of Austin, Scare Package II: Rad Chad’s Revenge sees the return of Jeremy King as both Rad Chad and his twin brother Bo Buckley, Zoe Graham as Scare Package’s final girl Jessie, Byron Brown as Rad Chad’s Horror Emporium most loyal but unsettling customer Sam, and Dustin Rhodes as the Devil’s Lake Impaler. New cast members include Kelli Maroney, Graham Skipper, Rich Sommer, and Shakira Ja'nai Paye. Scare Package II: Rad Chad’s Revenge, which premiered locally during this year's Other Worlds Film Festival, will debut Dec. 22 on Shudder. Co-writer/director Aaron B. Koontz previously directed Scare Package, The Pale Door, and Camera Obscura. He is the CEO and founder of the Austin-based genre boutique production company Paper Street Pictures, with his writing partner Cameron Burn serving as director of development and Ashleigh Snead as director of production. Paper Street Pictures, which recently celebrated its 10th anniversary, has had a hectic 2022 with the release of Le-Van Kiet’s The Requin, Luke Boyce’s Revealer, Lucky McKee’s Old Man, Noah Segan’s Blood Relatives, and Scare Package II: Rad Chad’s Revenge. Paper Street Pictures is already preparing for a busy 2023, with Austin-based director Emily Hagins’ Sorry About the Demon scheduled for a January premiere on Shudder and Franklin Ritch’s The Artifice Girl, Chris Stuckman’s Shelby Oaks, Damien LeVeck’s A Creature Was Stirring, Ariel Vida’s Trim Season, and Brian Hanson’s The Bunker completed or in post-production.
