"The Rink"
Written and directed by the Austin-based Ronald Short, the chiller The Rink finds two women at a pivotal stage in their romantic relationship. But the unexpected arrival of the police not only interrupts a quiet evening of roller skating derails Lo’s (Andrea Carranza) plans to make a serious commitment to her girlfriend Mae (Kariann Randol). Filmed at the Austin Roller Rink, The Rink will screen at 4:30 p.m.Dec. 6 and 7:05 p.m. Dec. 7 as part of the Other Worlds Film Festival Under Worlds Shorts package Dark Nights & Dark Thoughts at the Galaxy Highland 10. The Rink received the Other Worlds Film Festival’s 2018 Dan O’Bannon Filmmaking Grant, which is given to the production of a short sci-fi short. The Austin-based Ronald Short previously wrote and directed this year’s romantic comedy Good Feels on Wheel and 2012’s Billi & Theodore. He also created the 2015 web series Weekend Plans. His next narrative feature, Coward, is in pre-production.
