Interview:
Bryan Poyser,
co-writer/director,
"Gopherit"
The on-the-job pitfalls of being a freelance contractor comes under scrutiny in the short comedy Gopherit by Austin-based director Bryan Poyser. Co-written by Poyser and cast member Brian McGuire, Gopherit finds spreadsheets specialist Justin Arnold’s Randall assigned by a job-matching website to sort through the invoices of Heather Kafka’s dominatrix Marie. But Randall quickly becomes distracted by one of Marie’s clients (McGuire). Gopherit, which takes its name from the job-sharing app used by Marie, will screen during The Houston Film Commission’s Texas Filmmaker’s Showcase at 8 p.m. Nov. 26 at the AFS Cinema. Bryan Poyser previously directed the feature films Dear Pillow, Lovers of Hate and Love & Air Sex. He has previously been represented in The Houston Film Commission’s Texas Filmmaker’s Showcase by 2007’s Grammy’s and 2016’s More than Four Hours.
