Interview:
Dana Cowden,
writer/director,
"Nova"
Written and directed by the Austin-based Dana Cowden, the sci-fi thriller Nova finds a Mars-bound crew of humans and androids fighting for survival after their spaceship sustains irreparable damage. Juliet Chevelle stars as Nova, an upgraded android secretly programmed to experience replicated human emotions. Nova quickly comes into conflict with fellow android Reese (Skye Stracke), whose warranted distrust of her human masters is only heightened as all crew members scramble to ensure the Darwin makes it in one piece to Mars. Nova will screen at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Dec. 3 during the Other Worlds Film Festival at the Galaxy Theatres Austin and will be available to watch online at Eventive from Dec 6-12. Dana Cowden, who makes her narrative directorial debut with Nova, previously directed the documentary I Had a Name as well as the shorts Just Imagine, Host, and Ella and the Sun. Cowden is about to begin production on another contained sci-fi thriller, The Osiris Project.
