Interview:
Sean M. Stuart, producer,
"All Things Must Pass"
Directed by Colin Hanks and produced by Sean M. Stuart, the documentary All Things Must Pass chronicles the rise and fall of the Tower Records chain of retail music stores, from its beginning in 1960, when founder Russ Solomon began records out of his father’s Sacramento, California, drug store, and continuing through to 2006, when the company filed for bankruptcy as a result of overexpansion, slumping sales, heavy debt, and Internet music piracy. The documentary includes interviews with Russ Solomon, Tower Records employee turned rock star Dave Grohl, and Elton John, who ranked among the most famous customers of Tower Records’ Sunset Strip store in West Hollywood. All Things Must Pass will screen 7:15 p.m. March 19 at the Alamo Slaughter and 8:45 p.m. March 20 at the Stateside Theatre during the SXSW Film Festival. All Things Must Pass represents the directorial debut of Colin Hanks, who has starred in the films Orange County, King Kong, the Austin-shot Parkland, and The Great Buck Howard, which costarred his father Tom. He also has appeared in the TV shows Dexter, Fargo, and Mad Men. Sean M. Stuart previously produced the TV series 3D Tourist and the short documentaries The Queen of Code and The Anti-Mascot. All Things Must Pass director Colin Hanks joins producer Sean M. Stuart during this interview.
