Interview:
James Ponsoldt,
director,
"The End of the Tour"
What happens when a Rolling Stone reporter and acclaimed novelist takes to the road with an author who is heralded as the voice of his generation? The End of the Tour, director James Ponsoldt's adaptation of David Lipsky memoir Although of Course You End Up Becoming Yourself, recalls the five days Lipsky spent in 1996 interviewing Infinite Jest author David Foster Wallace as he completed a book tour for his critically acclaimed, commercially successful tale of a dystopian future. Their conversations become fraught with tension the longer they spend together and discuss fame, fortune, and artistic integrity. Jason Segel portrays David Foster Wallace, who committed suicide in 2008; Jesse Eisenberg portrays David Lipsky. James Ponsoldt previously directed Off the Black, Smashed, and The Spectacular Now. Ponsoldt will next direct the Tom Hanks-Emma Watson drama The Circle. The End of the Tour opened Aug. 14 in Austin.
