Interview:
Andrew Yates, co-director,
"Crazy Carl & His Man Boobs"
Street performer. Flower guy. Soggy sandwich seller. Foot fetishist. Professional student. City council candidate. Austin’s alter ego. Few has kept Austin weird for as long as Crazy Carl Hickerson, the Sixth Street institution known for selling and spinning flowers, flashing his man boobs, and breaking into dance outside of Esther’s Follies. Beef and Pie Productions’ new documentary, Crazy Carl and His Man Boobs, examines what Hickerson means to Austin, the ingenious way he used his colorful personality and character traits to push through social change in the city, and his relationship with his longtime companion Charlotte Ferris. The documentary will screen 7:09 p.m. April 1 at, of course, Esther’s Follies. Crazy Carl and His Man Boobs co-director Andrew Yates is joined by co-director Mike Woolf and editor Landon Peterson during this interview.
