Interview:
Mel Eslyn,
co-writer/director,
"Biosphere"
Producer Mel Eslyn makes her directorial debut with the Sterling K. Brown-Mark Duplass sci-fi two-hander Biosphere after more than a decade of collaborating with Duplass in various capacities. In Biosphere, which Eslyn co-wrote with Duplass, Brown and Duplass star as the remaining survivors of an unexplained apocalyptic event that Duplass had a hand in as the President of the United States. The life-long friends live together in a biosphere that Brown—then working in the role of Duplass’ science advisor—designed, built, and now maintains. But Brown and Duplass’ very existence comes under threat following several unexpected turn of events. Biosphere opened July 7 in Austin and is also available for digital and VOD viewing. Mel Eslyn has served as president of Duplass Brothers Productions for Mark Duplass and Jay Duplass since 2015. Mel Eslyn previously co-produced director Lynn Shelton’s Your Sister’s Sister and Touchy Feely and was the line producer for Laggies. She produced the Mark Duplass character studies The One I Love, Blue Jay, Paddleton, and Language Lessons. She also produced Uncle Kent 2, Dreamland, Take Me, Outside In, Duck Butter, Horse Girl, 7 Days, Spin Me Around, and The Drop. She also is an executive producer of the Duplass Brothers Productions TV series Somebody Somewhere, Sasquatch, and Room 104. Mel Eslyn is currently completing her currently untitled second film, which reunites her with Mark Duplass.
