Interview:
Lisa Donato,
co-screenwriter,
"Signature Move"
Written by Fawzia Mirza and the Austin-based Lisa Donato, the Jennifer Reeder-directed romantic comedy Signature Move follows Mirza's Pakistan-American immigration attorney Zaynab as she tries to find the right woman. At the same, the Muslim woman must conceal her sexuality from her mother (Bollywood icon Shanana Azmi), who just wants her to find the right man. Then Zaynab meets Alma (Sari Sanchez), a Mexican-America woman whose mother is a former wrestler. Coincidentally, Zaynab is taking wrestling lessons as payment from a client. Fawzia Mirza previously worked with the Austin-based Lisa Donato on the short films Sugarhiccup and Spunkle and the short documentary Reclaiming Pakistan. Signature Move will screen during the SXSW Film Festival at 5:30 p.m. March 17 at the Alamo South Lamar. Fawzia Mirza joins Lisa Donato during this interview.
