"Tejano Night"
Austin-based writer/director Alexander Rosales’ drama Tejano Night screens at 3 p.m. Jan. 22 at the AFS Cinema as part of the Shorts Showcase 2023, a collaboration between initiating organization Indie Meme and the All Genders, Lifestyles and Identities Film Festival (aGLIFF), the Austin Asian American Film Festival, the Austin Jewish Film Festival, and the Cine Las Americas International Film Festival. Selected by the Cine Las Americas International Film Festival, Rosales’ pre-thesis short film Tejano Night focuses a young Mexican-American man’s cultural identity crisis. Played by Harold Fisch, Mijo feels disconnected from his heritage while visiting relatives in South Texas because he does not speak Spanish. Mijo accompanies his cousin to a bar, where the Tejano music stirs something in him he has not felt before. Alexander Rosales recently graduated from the University of Texas’s Master of Fine Arts program. Aired: Jan. 17, 2023.
