Interview:
Caleb Johnson,
writer/director,
"The Carnivores"
A woman’s best friend is her dog. But what happens when her dog comes between her and her partner? In director Caleb Johnson’s SXSW Film Festival 2020 darkly humorous psychological thriller The Carnivores, Austin couple Alice (Jules of Light and Dark's Tallie Medel) and Bret (A Teacher's Lindsay Burdge) find themselves drifting apart when their dog Harvey gets sick. Alice resents Bret for lavishing all her attention on Harvey, the dog Bret owned before she met Alice. A vegetarian, Alice’s jealousy of Harvey manifests itself in cravings for meat and hostile thoughts against the dog. Caleb Johnson previously directed 2014’s Joy Kevin, which also starred The Carnivores’ Tallie Medel. The Carnivores streams April 8-18 during Panic Fest. Note: The interview makes reference to the since-canceled SXSW Film Festival 2020 screenings of The Carnivores.
