"Beauty of a Blank Space"
Written by Texas State University alumni Ryan Love and Laurel Toupal, and directed by Love, the road trip dramedy Beauty of a Blank Space finds two siblings driving from Las Vegas to Portland to retrieve a time capsule they buried in a national forest when they were children. For Toupal’s aspiring screenwriter Haley, one item she believes she left in the time capsule may provide her with the answers she has sought as an adult about her late biological mother. Trevor Person, who also attended Texas State University, stars as Mac, the emotionally adrift Haley’s caring but occasionally frustrated adoptive brother. But Mac, a Hollywood makeup artist, has his own professional and romantic issues to concern while on the road. Beauty of a Blank Space will screen at 7 p.m. Oct. 28 at the Rollins Long Center and at 7 p.m. Oct. 31 at the Galaxy Theatres Austin during the Austin Film Festival. Beauty of a Blank Space represents Grapevine native Ryan Love’s directorial debut. Dallas native Laurel Toupal makes her screenwriting debut with Beauty of a Blank Space. She previously starred in the Into the Dark installment Pooka Lives! and the slasher Party Night. Aired: Oct. 25, 2022.
