"Damsel"
Austin-based brothers Nathan Zellner (left) and David Zellner (right) bring their idiosyncratic sense of humor and keen powers of observation to the western genre with the unpredictable Damsel. Robert Pattinson stars as Samuel Alabaster, a pioneer who journeys across the Wild West in search of his true love Penelope (Mia Wasikowska). In tow is David Zellner’s Parson Henry, who is hired by Alabaster to marry the couple immediately upon their happy reunion. As Henry slowly discovers, nothing is quite what it seems. Damsel, which premiered locally during this year’s SXSW, costars Nathan Zellner as Penelope's brother-in-law Rufus Cornell and one of Alabaster’s adversaries. A miniature horse by the name of Butterscotch also serves a major role in the film. Damsel will screen 7 p.m. June 28 at the Austin Film Society’s AFS Cinema with the Austin-based Zellner Brothers in attendance for a post-screening Q&A and premiere party at the AFS Cinema. Damsel also opens June 28 at Austin theaters. David Zellner or Nathan Zellner will participate in post-screening Q&As after the 6:30 p.m. June 29, 7 p.m. June 30, and 4 p.m. July 1 screenings at the AFS Cinema. Damsel is the follow-up to the Zellner Brothers’ previous features Kumiko, The Treasure Hunter, Kid-Thing, and Goliath.
