Gabriel Luna,
"The Last of Us"
(Photographer: Jonny Marlow.) Austin native Gabriel Luna stars in the HBO series adaptation of the videogame The Last of Us as Tommy, a Desert Storm veteran and the younger brother of lead character Joel, who is played by Pedro Pascal. In the premiere episode, Tommy, Joel, and his teenage daughter Sarah try to flee a violence-torn Austin when a contagious fungal disease spreads hits the city and turns the infected into zombie-like creatures. But Sarah is killed before they can reach safety. Twenty years later, with society all but on the verge of collapse, Joel is tasked with protecting Bella Ramsey’s 14-year-old Ellie, the only known survivor immune to the Cordyceps infection. When he loses contact with Tommy, Joel leaves Boston’s military quarantine zone for Wyoming in search of his possibly missing brother, taking with him Ellie across a United States rampant with creatures and hostile human survivors. Episodes premiere 8 p.m. Sundays on HBO and then stream HBO Max, with the exception of Episode 5, which will premiere Friday, Feb. 10 on HBO Max due to the Super Bowl. Austin native Gabriel Luna previously starred as soccer star/CIA operative Tony Bravo in the El Rey Network series Matador and as Robbie Reyes’ Ghost Rider in the TV series Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. In addition to playing the lethal Rev-9 in Terminator: Dark Fate, Luna has appeared in the films Transpecos, Freeheld, and the Austin-shot Bernie and Balls Out. He will next be seen in the Netflix series FUBAR, which will reunite him with Terminator: Dark Fate’s Arnold Schwarzenegger. Aired: Feb. 7, 2023. Web sites: https://www.hbo.com/the-last-of-us |
