"Diamond Hands:
The Legend of WallStreetBets"
Executive producer by Texas native and onetime Austinite Amanda Spain, the documentary Diamond Hands: The Legend of WallStreetBets dissects the GameStop stock trading frenzy prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The documentary shines a light on WallStreetBets subreddit forum that pushed GameStop and the retail traders who banded together to drive up its share price to stick it to such shorts sellers as hedge funds. Taking its title from the slang to hold onto a volatile stock, Diamond Hands recalls the GameStop stock market rollercoaster ride and the role of investing app Robinhood Financial through interviews with WallStreetBets moderators, financial analysts, and such retail investors as Chris Garcia, Matt Kelly, Alisha B. Woods, and Alvan Chow, aka Jeffamazon and CEO of Dr. Wealth. Directed by Drea Cooper and Zackary Canepari, Diamond Hands: The Legend of WallStreetBets will screen during the SXSW Film Festival at 7 p.m. Sunday, March 13 at the SXSW Film Theater, 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, March 15 at the Alamo South Lamar, and 11:15 a.m. Thursday, March 17 at the Alamo South Lamar. Diamond Hands: The Legend of WallStreetBets is also available for SXSW Film Festival registrants to stream online for 48 hours beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, March 14.
