Interview:
Lance Myers,
writer/director,
"Boxer Story"
Written and directed by Austin-based Lance Myers, the animated dramedy Boxer Story tells the story of a struggling amateur pugilist who finally receives his shot at fame and glory. A win would also allow Twomey Martin (voiced by Les McGehee) to prove that there is more to him than the affliction that has cursed himself throughout his boxing career. Punch Twomey in his face and he gives off the sound of a one-liner joke. Boxer Story will screen during The Houston Film Commission’s Texas Filmmaker’s Showcase at 8 p.m. Nov. 26 at the AFS Cinema. The voice cast also includes David Blackwell, Owen Egerton, Shannon McCormick, and Beth Myers. Graham Reynolds composed the music. Artist Lance Myers was previously represented in The Houston Film Commission’s Texas Filmmaker’s Showcase by 2001’s The Astronomer, 2004’s Subsidized Fate, and 2009’sSkip and Lester: Here's the Stapler If You Need It. He served as the animation director of the 2018 pilot The Oracle of Outer Space and as the lead animator for Richard Linklater’s A Scanner Darkly. He also worked as a key assistant animator on Space Jam and Quest for Camelot while at Heart of Texas Production. Myers recently wrote the book “Why So Much?” and the holiday novella “Clash of the Christmas Clones,” both published by the Austin-based Persistence of Vision. He also will show new work at a group art show on Dec. 5 and 6 at FLIGHT Gallery in San Antonio.
