With his Spy Kids franchise dormant since 2011, Austin-based writer/director Robert Rodriguez launches a potential new family-friendly film series with his first Netflix endeavor, We Can Be Heroes. Set in the same world as The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl, We Can Be Heroes pits the children of Earth’s mightiest superheroes against an invading alien force. When they are captured and imprisoned by the aliens, The Heroics' superpowered kids must come together as a team to thwart the aliens’ plan to take over Earth. YaYa Gosselin leads the cast of kids as Missy Moreno, who lacks superpowers but possesses the leadership skills of her father, the Heroics’ Marcus Moreno (The Mandalorian’s Pedro Pascal). The rest of the cast includes Priyanka Chopra as The Heroics’ commander Ms. Granada and Boyd Holbrook, Christian Slater, Sung Kang, Haley Reinhart, J. Quinton Johnson, Brittany Perry-Russell, and Jamie Perez as members of The Heroics. Taylor Dooley reprises her role of Lavagirl, who is now married to Sharkboy (stunt performer J.J. Dashnaw, stepping in for Taylor Lautner). Vivien Lyra Blair stars as Guppy, the daughter of Sharkboy and Lavagirl who possesses the ability to control water. Lyon Daniels stars as Invisi Girl's son Noodles, who can stretch his body. We Can Be Heroes premiered Dec. 25 on Netflix. Aired: Dec. 24, 2020. Web site: https://www.netflix.com/ |
