Interview:
Matt Johnson, series creator,
and Matt Miller, executive producer,
"Nirvanna the Band Show"
Nirvanna the Band Show creators Matt Johnson and Jay McCarrol expand their web series, which ran from 2007-2009, into the first scripted series for Vice. The series stars Johnson and McCarrol as two friends who perform together in a band named Nirvanna (the second "n" legally allows them to use the same name as a certain grudge rock band). They undertake their fictional misadventures in real-world situations, such as building a Christmas parade float or crashing a screening during the Sundance Film Festival. Spike Jonze serves as an executive producer. Episodes of Nirvanna the Band Show will screen 2:55 p.m. Sept. 23 and 8:55 p.m. Sept. 26 during Fantastic Fest at the Alamo South Lamar. Co-creator Matt Johnson and executive producer Matt Miller discussed Nirvanna the Band Show during an interview focused on their new film, Operation Avalanche.
