"Gimme Truth"
Social media-era conspiracy theories both dangerous and trivial come under scrutiny in Gimme Truth, a documentary directed by Simon Ennis and the Austin-based Brad Abrahams. The Canadian filmmakers examine how social media has pushed fringe conspiracy theories into the mainstream, resulting not only in the widespread distribution of harmful misinformation but the fueling of divisive and inflammatory political rhetoric. Interview subjects include British investigative journalist and “Them: Adventures with Extremists” author Jon Ronson; Austin-based Plandemic creator Mikki Willis; anti-extraterrestrial activist Justin Kohn; self-described “Starseed” Arcturus Ra; and 9/11 Truther turned former conspiracy theorist Erica Roach. Gimme Truth will screen at 11:50 a.m. Sept. 20 and 8:45 p.m. Sept. 23 during Fantastic Fest at the Alamo South Lamar. Austin-based Brad Abrahams, who co-hosts the podcast QAnon Anonymous, previously directed the Fantastic Fest 2017 documentary Love and Saucers. Toronto-based Simon Ennis previously directed the SXSW 2024 documentary The Hobby as well as Man vs. Machine, Lunarcy!; and You Might as Well Live.
