Writer/director Rod Davis Lurie and actor Scott Eastwood follow up their 2020 Afghanistan combat drama The Outpost with the World War II survival thriller Lucky Strike. Taking its title from the brand of cigarette rationed to American troops during World War II, Lucky Strike finds combat engineer John Castle (Eastwood) trapped behind enemy lines during the early days of the Battle of the Bulge. With hostilities preventing a rescue mission, and the bitter weather working against him, Castle’s only hope to make it alive to the nearest U.S. base is to trek across 30 kilometers of treacherous country crawling with Nazi soldiers and SS officers. But Castle’s ability to find his way to safety hinges on his trusty Motorola SCR-300 radio, which he must keep operational and out of enemy hands at all costs. Lucky Strike also stars Colin Hanks and King Richard Oscar nominee Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor. Inspired by a true story, Lucky Strike opened June 26 in theaters. Rod Davis Lurie, who graduated from West Point and served in the U.S. Army, previously directed Deterrence, The Contender, The Last Castle, Resurrecting the Champ, Nothing But the Truth, the 2011 remake of Straw Dogs, The Outpost, and The Senior. He is about to direct a western.
