"Parasomnia"
Borrowing its title from the group designation for multiple sleep disorders, writer/director James Ross II’s supernatural chiller Parasomnia focuses on a young woman whose night terrors results in more than a bad night of sleep. Riley (Jasmine Mathews) is still grappling with the childhood trauma that left her an orphan. She suddenly begins to experience the same intense night terrors she endured as a child and then as a teenager, when her foster mother died under bizarre circumstances. She soon comes to realize she is being stalked in her nightmares by a malevolent entity known as The Seer (Simon Longnight). Parasomnia also stars RJ Brown as Riley’s best friend David and Sally Stewart as the voodoo priestess Mama. Parasomnia, which is now available to stream at Shudder, will screen at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 11 at the Alamo South Lamar with writer/director James Ross II and producer Gabrielle Chapman in attendance. Writer/director James Ross II relocated to Austin in 2025 after graduating from Florida State University and making his feature-length directorial debut Parasomnia in Panama City, Florida. Houstonite Jasmine Mathews previously starred as Mary Joan Martelly in the 2023 biopic Big George Foreman. She also appeared in Merv, The Man from Toronto, The Tomorrow War, and the Heathers TV series.
