"Death of a Yellow Bird"
Written and directed by Cody Calahan, the intimate supernatural drama Death of a Yellow Bird stars Ari Millen as a dying man who returns to his childhood home to contemplate his abbreviated life and impending death. Finding an old VHS camcorder, Millen starts record videos for his young son. Sensing a strange presence in the house, Millen's thoughts immediately turn to a childhood tragedy that continues to haunt him to this day. Death of a Yellow Bird was prompted by Ari Millen's battle with cancer and Cody Calahan's memories of his mother's passing. The lifelong friends made the film at Calahan's childhood house. Death of a Yellow Bird will screen at 11 a.m. Sept. 23 during Fantastic Fest at the Alamo South Lamar. Actor Ari Millen and writer/director Cody Calahan previously worked together on 2020's Vicious Fun and 2023's The Oak Room, which Chad Archibald produced and Jeff Mahar shot. Calahan also directed Let Her Out, Antisocial, and Antisocial 2. Millen recently appeared as the title villain in this year's Eli Roth horror comedy The Ice Cream Man. He also lent his voice to this year's chiller Undertone, which included Calahan as a producer and Archibald as an executive producer. Calahan is currently producing the next Paranormal Activity installment, which is directed by Undertone's Ian Tuason.
