Interview:
Alysa Nahmias,
director,
"Cookie Queens"
A girl scout lives by the motto “be prepared.” So what preparation goes into selling more boxes of Girl Scout Cookies in 6-8 weeks than the average person can consume in a lifetime? This is a question faced by the four pre-teen girl scouts in director Alysa Nahmias’ Cookie Queens, a documentary that includes Meghan Markle and Prince Harry as producers. Nahmias follows the girl scouts—Olive, Shannon Elizabeth, Nikki, and Ara—over the course of a single Girl Scout Cookies season as they try to meet or exceed their personal sales target, whether it is 55 boxes or 4,000 boxes, depending on their age, experience, ambition, and motivation. The documentary balances the joy of selling cookies to help a girl scout troop against the pressure and financial stress faced by both child and parent that comes with taking on too many boxes to sell. Cookie Queens, which won this year's SXSW Film & TV Festival Favorite Audience Award, is now in theaters. AlysaNahmias previously directed the documentaries Unfinished Spaces, The New Bauhaus, and Art & Krimes by Krimes. Aired: Aug. 12, 2026. Web site: https://www.cookiequeensfilm.com/ |
