"The True Beauty of Being Bitten by a Tick"
![]() In director Pete Ohs’ metaphysical drama The True Beauty of Being Bitten by a Tick, urbanite Yvonne (Zoë Chao) seeks refuge at her friend Camille’s (Callie Hernandez) remote country house to grieve for her recently deceased dog. Yvonne is immediately thrown off by the unexpected presence of Camille’s two male friends AJ (James Cusati-Moyer) and Claude (Jeremy O. Harris). And Yvonne has trouble comprehending why the ultimate city girl Camille hasn’t just gone country—she now seems so eerily calm, composed, and fearless. Things then take a strange turn when Yvonne finds a tick burrowing into her back. The True Beauty of Being Bitten by a Tick represents a collaboration between director Pete Ohs and his four primary cast members, who wrote the script based on Ohs’ initial idea. The True Beauty of Being Bitten by a Tick screens during the SXSW Film & TV Festival at the Alamo South Lamar at 7:15 p.m. March 7, 11 a.m. March 11, and 5:30 p.m. March 15. Pete Ohs previously directed the SXSW selection Jethica, also starring Callie Hernandez, and Love and Work. Zoë Chao has appeared in Richard Linklater’s Where’d You Go, Bernadette?, Downhill, The High Note, Somebody I Used to Know, Nightbitch, and the TV series Strangers, The Afterparty, Party Down, and Creature Commandos. Chao will next star in Let's Have Kids and opposite Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch in The Roses, a remake of the 1989 dark comedy The War of the Roses. Posted: March 7, 2025.
