Interview:
Vinnie Hogan,
co-writer/director,
"The Distant Jump"
Co-written and directed by Austin-based filmmaker Vinnie Hogan, the sci-fi thriller The Distant Jump finds an estranged couple coming together to rescue their abducted young daughter from a criminal organization operating in an alternate reality. The Dark Junction kidnaps pre-teenager Bethany (Bronte Harrison) to use her enhanced abilities to fuel the technology it employs to jump between realities. Forced to put behind their differences, exes Jennifer (Remy Joslin) and Rebecca (Alaithia Velez) team up with Anthony (co-writer Frank J. Kim)—the father of a previous kidnapping victim—to track down the Dark Junction before its leader can drain Bethany of her life force. The Distant Jump will screen at 6 p.m. Feb. 6 at the AFS Cinema along with the short film Siren. The Austin-shot film will also be available to stream beginning Feb. 7. Austin-based filmmaker and composer Vinnie Hogan previously directed the 2013 horror comedy The Fable of Shannon Cable.
