Interview:
Tracie Laymon,
writer/director,
"Bob Trevino Likes It"
![]() With her dramedy Bob Trevino Likes It, UT film alum Tracie Laymon celebrates a pivotal relationship in her life that lead her to find her chosen family. For almost a decade, Laymon maintained an online relationship with Bob Laymon, whom she contacted via social media by accident believing he was her estranged father because they shared the same name. Bob Laymon would become a father figure to the Houston native, and their close friendship serves as the basis of the semi-fictionalized Bob Trevino Likes It, with the character title name after another close friend. Euphoria’s Barbie Ferreira plays Lily Trevino, who longs to bond with her selfish and manipulative father, Bob (French Stewart). After Bob ghosts her, Lily takes to Facebook to DM Bob in order to patch things up. The Facebook account does not belong to Lily’s father but to a man in another state with the same name, Bob Trevino (John Leguizamo). What starts as one person mistakenly reaching out to a stranger quickly develops into a friendship that changes the lives of both a lonely young woman in need of fatherly advice and a middle-aged married workaholic with a hole in his heart. Bob Trevino Likes It also stars French Stewart as Lily’s self-centered father Bob and Rachel Bay Jones as Jeanie, the understanding and supportive wife to John Leguizamo’s Bob Trevino. Bob Trevino Likes It won both the 2024 SXSW Film & TV Festival’s Grand Jury Award for Narrative Feature and Narrative Feature Competition Audience Award. Bob Trevino Likes It opened March 28 in Austin theaters. Native Houstonite and UT film alum Tracie Laymon makes her feature film directorial debut with Bob Trevino Likes It after working on multiple shorts and contributing to the 2011 anthology Girls! Girls! Girls! Laymon won the 2004 SXSW Film Festival Best Music Video award for “better?” by 54 Seconds.
