"Anima"
In the sci-fi drama Anima, the Austin-raised Sydney Chandler stars as Beck, a student who takes a job driving a dying man to his final destination. Dying of terminal cancer, Takehiro Hira’s button manufacturer Paul is scheduled to have an experimental procedure that would allow his consciousness to interact with his family members after his death. What should be an easy overnight drive turns into a headache for Beck when Paul demands he makes several stops to resolve past mistakes and indiscretions. Anima will screen at 3 p.m. March 12, 7 p.m. March 15, and 2:15 p.m. March 18 at the Alamo South Lamar during this year’s SXSW Film & TV Festival. The daughter of Friday Night Lights star Kyle Chandler, Sydney Chandler currently stars as Wendy in Noah Hawley’s FX/FX on Hulu series Alien: Earth. She also appeared in the 2019 locally shot Facebook Watch teen drama SKAM Austin, starred as Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders in the Danny Boyle-directed 2022 music miniseries Pistol, and recurred in the Colin Farrell 2024 detective series Sugar. She made her feature-film debut in the 2022 psychological thriller Don’t Worry Darling. Sydney Chandler received the 2026 Rising Star Award at this year’s Texas Film Awards. Aired: March 11, 2026.
