Panic at the Paramount
Abandon all hope, ye who enter the Paramount Theatre for its annual spooky season series of horror films, Panic at the Paramount. The series kicks off at 7 p.m. Oct. 6 with the “Re-Animator Turns 40” screening with cast members Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton in attendance. Drag performer Louisiana Purchase will host the Oct. 11 double bill of the 1989 version of Pet Sematary and the 1977 Japanese psychedelic creepshow Hausu (House). Robert Rodriguez will present the Oct. 29 double of John Carpenter’s Halloween and a mystery movie. Claudio Simonetti’s Goblin will return Oct. 31 to the Paramount Theatre for a screening and a live score performance of Dario Argento’s Deep Red. The series will wrap up Nov. 9 with the 1981 “Evil Dead in Concert,” featuring a live performance of Joe LoDuca’s score. Beyond its Halloween-themed programming, the Paramount Theatre will also screen Close Encounters of the Third Kind in 70mm on Friday, Oct. 3 and Sunday, Oct. 5 and will present “An Evening with Elizabeth Berkley,” featuring a 30th anniversary screening of Showgirls, on Oct. 9; welcome John Waters for a double bill of Polyester and Cecil B. Demented on Oct. 17; and will host Talking Heads guitarist-keyboardist Jerry Harrison for a screening of the band’s seminal 1984 concert film Stop Making Sense on Nov. 14. The Paramount Theatre will also hold its annual Elf Pub Run on Dec. 2 in advance of this year’s to-be-announced classic holiday film series.
