2025 Paramount Summer Classic Film Series
![]() After celebrating its 50th anniversary last year, the Paramount Summer Classic Film Series returns May 22 with another three months of screenings designed to keep Austin audiences cool and entertained at a time when temperatures threaten to hit 100 degrees or above. The 2025 series kicks off May 22 with a double bill of Casablanca and Breathless and continues through Aug. 31 with multiple film blocks programmed by the Paramount Theatre; such local community arts partners as the Austin Asian American Film Festival, the Austin Film Society, and the Hyperreal Film Club; and Austin-based filmmaker Robert Rodriguez. The El Mariachi and Spy Kids director launches his Robert Rodriguez Presents series of double bills with After Hours and Into the Night on May 24, and continues with Highlander and The Untouchables on June 15, Ladyhawke and The Hitcher on June 28, RoboCop and Starship Troopers on Aug. 3, and the closing night selections Kill Bill Volume 1 and 2. Special events include Jared and Genevieve Padalecki hosting a screening of When Harry Met Sally … on June 11 with “The Love Haters!” author Katherine Center in attendance and the Austin Film Festival presenting Hook and Bram Stoker’s Dracula on July 20 with screenwriter Jim Hart participating in post-screening Q&As. The series also sees the return of weeks devoted to the master of suspense Alfred Hitchcock and 70mm screenings. Other programming blocks are built around classics celebrating their 50th anniversary, films of the 1990s, animals friendly and fearsome, the love of baseball, grown-up fairy tales, independent small-business owners, romances, school life, and true stories.
