Interview:
Raven Carter,
director,
"Noseeums"
Directed by Manor-based filmmaker Raven Carter, the supernatural chiller Noseeums employs its folk horror elements to examine intergenerational trauma in Black families and institutionalized property theft. Aleigha Burt stars as college student Ember, who joins her three friends Abigail (Tabby Getsy), Lexi (Jessie Roddy), and Tessa (Jasmine Gia Nguyen) on a weekend getaway to North Florida lake house. Already feeling like she is the token Black friend, Ember quickly finds herself subjected to racial remarks and behavior by Abigail, a white woman whose family has owned the lake house for generations. Making matters worse, Ember’s occasional visions of a terrorized Black woman and her husband (Trisha Arozqueta and Steven Aaron, respectively) become more frequent and intense with every minute she spends in the lake house. Ember soon realizes she must address past racial injustices in order to confront the discrimination she experiences. Noseeums, which takes its title from the biting midges found in Florida and factor into the film’s plot, also stars Tyler Bib as Earl, a local handyman who helps Ember. With a script credited to Jason-Michael Anthony and Hendreck Joseph, Noseeums is now available for digital/on-demand viewing. Bastrop native Raven Carter directed Noseeums while studying at Florida State University’s College of Motion Picture Arts. She previously directed the short films Weird People and White Washed. She is currently producing the short film Clear the Air from Dallas-based director Ryan Cameron. Aired: March 25, 2026.
