If the eyes never lie, why can’t the residents of the Texas town of Larkin see for themselves the terrible things inflicted upon them for decades? Written and directed by Austin-based filmmakers Peter Hall and Paul Gandersman, the locally shot found footage chiller Man Finds Tape follows two siblings investigating the strange goings on in Larkin that may be supernatural in nature. Lucas Page (William Magnuson) gains a cult on YouTube after posting a mysterious and disturbing videotape footage shot of him when he was a child. Lucas’ sister Lynn (Kelsey Pribilski) initially dismisses his concerns, but her suspicions are raised when she views surveillance footage of an unsolved murder that was committed in broad daylight in Larkin. More troubling is how Lucas—and his fellow residents of Larkin—react to all recordings that captures them under threat. An immune Lynn returns to Larkin to hunt down the sinister force terrorizing her hometown. Man Finds Tape also stars John Gholson as Larkin’s spiritual leader Reverend Endicott Carr and Brian Villalobos as an enigmatic stranger with an unclear agenda. Shot in and around Austin, Man Finds Tape opened Dec. 5 at the Alamo South Lamar, with post-screening Q&As with Peter Hall, Paul Gandersman, and producer David Lawson Jr. of Rustic Films scheduled for Dec. 5, 6, 7, and 9. Man Finds Tape is also available for digital/on-demand viewing. Peter Hall and Paul Gandersman make their directorial feature-length debut with Man Finds Tape. They previously wrote and directed the 2019 short No Signal; Gandersman also directed the 2016 short Givertaker from a script written by Hall. They produced the 2013 comedy Grow Up, Tony Phillips and wrote the 2022 YA horror novel “The Dead Friends Society,” which they adapted from an unproduced screenplay. Man Finds Tape counts Rustic Films’ Justin Benson, Aaron Moorhead, and the Austin-based David Lawson Jr. among its producers.
