Owen Egerton,
writer,
"Whistle"
Beware those who foolishly blow the cursed Aztec death whistle ehecachichtli. In Whistle, written by former Austinite Owen Egerton, the cursed artifact finds itself in the possession of a group of high school students unaware of its dark power. When blown by transfer student Chrys (Logan’s Dafne Keen), the whistle summons her future death and those within earshot of the shrill noise. Chrys and her friends scramble to find a way to reverse the curse before they die their fated death within days. Directed by The Nun’s Corin Hardy, Whistle also stars Yellowjackets’ Sophie Nélisse as Chrys' love interest Ellie, Wednesday’s Percy Hynes White as the shady youth minister Noah Haggerty, and Nick Frost as smug high school teacher Mr. Craven. Whistle, which closed last year’s Fantastic Fest, is now in theaters. Former Austinite Owen Egerton previously wrote The Axe Murders of Villisca and co-wrote the animated adventure Free Birds. He also directed Mercy Black, Blood Fest, and Follow. Egerton, who left Austin for Boston in 2023, also is an assistant professor in Emerson College’s School of Film, Television, and Media Arts. Egerton continues to return to Boston to perform with the movie-mocking comedy troupe Master Pancake. Aired: Feb. 11, 2026.
