"Sell Out"
What would you do if you were offered a small fortune to do something that would go against your principles? This is the dilemma faced by best-selling murder-mystery author Benny Dink in Sell Out, an Austin-shot comedy written and directed by brothers Nick Jude Holden and Josh Ashy Holden. Played by Nick Jude Holden, Benny cannot find the financial backing he needs for his next book, a non-fiction account of the 1991 Louisiana gubernatorial election between former Klansman and Republican candidate David Duke and his Democrat Edwin Edwards. Out of nowhere, Benny receives an lucrative offer to ghost write a book for a boorish tech billionaire. Benny needs and wants the money—but he fears accepting the job would make him a sell-out. So he returns to his native Lafayette to weigh the pros and cons of making some easy money against compromising himself as an writer and an artist. Sell Out also stars Gabriel Luna, Adrianne Palicki, Jimmy Gonzales, Bill Wise, Temple Baker, and Olivia Grace Applegate. Sell Out screens at 7 p.m. tomorrow at the Galaxy Theatres Austin during the Austin Film Festival. Austin-based filmmakers Nick Jude Holden and Josh Ashy Holden previously starred in, wrote, and directed the 2016 comedy The Golden Rut.
