"Mr. Crocket"
An expansion of the short of the same name Brandon Espy directed for Hulu's Bite Size Halloween series, Mr. Crocket finds a long-dead 1970s children's TV host return from the dead to protect the preteen audience members he believes are suffering at the hands of physically abusive or emotionally withholding parents. The seemingly congenial Mr. Crocket (Elvis Nolasco) kidnaps the children from their home via a possessed VHS tape and offers them "a safe home" in a netherworld dressed as the TV set of his short-lived show. One of Mr. Crocket's victims is Major (Ayden Gavin), a young boy whose grief for his recently deceased father causes him to act out at home much to the consternation and increasing frustration of his mother Summer (Jerrika Hinton). With the help of Rhonda (Kristolyn Lloyd), the mother of another abductee, Summer sets out to save Major from the delusional demonic entity. Mr. Crocket, which premiered locally during this year's Fantastic Fest, premiered Oct. 11 on Hulu. The chiller represents Brandon Espy's feature-length directorial debut. Elvis Nolasco currently stars in The Godfather of Harlem and has appeared in the TV series All American, Claws, She's Gotta Have It, and American Crime as well as the Spike Lee joints Old Boy and Da Sweet Blood of Jesus. Kristolyn Lloyd was a cast member of The Bold and the Beautiful from 2010-2013, Ayden Gavin made his feature film debut in this year's biopic Big George Foreman.
