Interview:
Mike McCutchen,
co-writer/director,
"A Game in the Woods"
Are you the hunter or the hunted? This is the question posed in A Game in the Woods, Austin-based co-writer/director Mike McCutchen’s Texas-flavored spin on The Most Dangerous Game. Ash (Eleanor Newman) and her girlfriend Sam (Emily Skeen) receive a nasty surprise when they visit the Texas ranch owned by Ash’s recently deceased grandfather. They cross paths with masked people hunting and killing undocumented immigrants and abducted foreign tourists for sport. Captured and designated as human prey, Ash and Sam must use their wits and knowledge of the ranch to survive the hunt. A Game in the Woods also stars John P. Crowley as the hunt’s Game Warden and features cameos from Troma Entertainment’s Lloyd Kaufman and the late stuntman-turned filmmaker Gary Kent. Shot in and around Castell, Boerne, and Elgin, A Game in the Woods will screen at 5:15 p.m. Feb. 8 at the Price Center in San Marcos during the Lost River Film Fest. It also is available on Tubi and for digital and on-demand viewing. Austin-based special effects buyer Mike McCutchen previously directed the 2018 thriller The Next Kill.
