"The Lost Bus"
Directed by Paul Greengrass, the fact-based survival drama The Lost Bus recalls the devastating 2018 Camp Fire in Northern California through the eyes of a school bus driver and a teacher charged with transporting 22 elementary students to safety. Austin’s Matthew McConaughey stars as recently divorced school bus driver Kevin McKay, who returns to his hometown of Paradise to mend his relationship with his teenage son Shaun (Levi McConaughey) and to care for his ailing mother Sherry (Kay McCabe McConaughey). When a wildfire threatens Paradise, Kevin must put behind him his personal issues to rescue the elementary students stuck at school and without transportation home. They are supervised on the school bus by one of their teachers, Mary Ludwig (America Ferrera). As the wildfire rapidly spreads, and roads become impassable, Kevin and Mary desperately seek a safe route to their drop-off point. The Lost Bus also stars Matthew McConaughey’s real-life son Levi McConaughey as Kevin’s son Shaun and McConaughey’s real-life mother Kay McCabe McConaughey as Kevin’s mother Sherry. The Lost Bus, which opened Sept. 26 in theaters, is now available to stream on Apple TV+. The Lost Bus represents Matthew McConaughey’s first released live-action film since 2020’s The Gentlemen. America Ferrera recently starred in Dumb Money and earned a Best Supporting Actress Academy Award nomination for Barbie. The Lost Bus is directed by Paul Greengrass, who previously made the fact-based dramas Captain Phillips, United 93, and Bloody Sunday as well as three Jason Bourne sequels.
