Interview:
Macon Blair,
writer/director,
"The Shitheads"
Written and directed by Austin-based actor and filmmaker Macon Blair, the road comedy The Shitheads finds Dave Franco and O’Shea Jackson’s rehab chaperones hitting one speed bump after another in their bid to drive Mason Thames’ cunning and conniving drug addict to a treatment center. Franco stars the unemployed Mark, who mistakenly believes he has landed an easy gig transporting a wealthy social media star to rehab. Even Jackson’s David, an experienced rehab chaperone, is unprepared for the devious ways in which Thames’ teenage sociopath Sheridan tries to escape from them before they can reach their destination. The Shitheads also stars Kiernan Shipka as a stripper wronged by Sheridan, Blair favorite Peter Dinklage as a die-hard fan willing to help Sheridan for a price, and Nicholas Braun as an aspiring punk rapper eager to impress Sheridan. The Shitheads will screen at 6:15 p.m. March 15 at the Zach Theater and at 9:30 p.m. March 18 at the State Theatre during this year’s SXSW Film & TV Festival. Austin-based actor and filmmaker Macon Blair previously directed last year’s The Toxic Avenger remake and the 2017 crime comedy I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore. He also wrote The Monkey’s Paw, Small Crimes, 57 Seconds, and Brothers. Blair has collaborated as actor, a writer, or a producer with his childhood friend, filmmaker Jeremy Saulnier, on Murder Party, Blue Ruin, Green Room, Hold the Dark, and Rebel Ridge. Blair has appeared in Gold, The Florida Project, Logan Lucky, The Hunt, I Care a Lot, and Peter Dinkage’s 2023 western The Thicket. He also appeared as one of J. Robert Oppenheimer’s attorney Lloyd K. Garrison in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. Aired: March 11, 2026. Web site: https://schedule.sxsw.com/films/2250287 |
