Inspired by Richard Linklater’s Before Sunrise, writer/director Leon Hendrix III’s romantic drama Montmartre finds Ito Aghayere’s American in Paris grappling with her feelings for her handsome and charismatic guide tour (Grey’s Anatomy’s Jesse Williams). Aghayere’s emotionally and psychologically adrift corporate drone Jo retreats to Paris in the hopes of rediscovering herself and regaining meaning in life. Instead, she falls under the spell of Williams’ Toussaint as the Parisian takes her on a tour of his city’s famous attractions, hidden treasures, and Black cultural and historical locations and landmarks. The more time Jo spends with Toussaint, the greater her attraction to the struggling artist. But Jo quickly questions whether a vacation romance can lead to something more consequential. Montmartre will close the Pan African Film Festival 2026 at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 1 at the AFS Cinema. Leon Hendrix III, who makes his feature-length directorial debut with Montmartre, previously wrote episodes of the TV series Mayor of Kingstown and The Abandons. He also co-wrote the upcoming Al Pacino drama Killing Castro. He is married to his Montmartre star Ito Aghayere.
