Interview:
Katherine Dudas,
co-writer/director,
"Theater is Dead"
The play’s not just the thing in co-writer/director Katherine Dudas horror comedy Theater is Dead. Nailing her first ever audition, “theater virgin” Willow (Decker Sadowski) lands the lead role in a regional stage production mounted by an acclaimed director, Matthew (A Walk to Remember’s Shane West). Struggling in the face mounting resentment from Matthew’s actress daughter Taylor (Madison Lawlor), Willow turns to Matthew for help and guidance to connect with her character and understanding the inner workings of the theater community. But the more comfortable Willow gets being on the stage, the greater the interest Matthew takes in her. Theater is Dead will screen at 2:30 p.m. Sept. 23 at the Alamo South Lamar during Fantastic Fest. Actress-turned filmmaker Katherine Dudas previously directed Juniper, a dramedy which also starred her Theater is Dead cast members and co-writers Decker Sadowski, Madison Lawlor, and Olivia Blue.
