"A Christmas in New Hope"
Co-written and directed by the Austin-based filmmaker Julia Barnett, the family holiday romantic comedy A Christmas in New Hope finds a Texas-based single mother struggling to make ends meet as a home restoration social media influencer. Victoria (30 Rock’s Katrina Bowden) juggles renovating her home with raising her daughter Charlie (Mia Analise Armstrong), a preteen with Down syndrome. In a desperate bid to earn some much-needed cash, Victoria enters an eco-friendly home restoration contest held by her high school frenemy Shannon (Adrianne Palicki), now a famous home improvement personality. Victoria receives some help from her new neighbor, the hunky Australian singer-songwriter Gavin Gardner (I’ll Be There’s Ryan Cooper). Just as the two begin to fall in love, Victoria receives some news about Gavin that makes her rethink whether he’s the best man for her. The Austin-shot A Christmas in New Hope is now available for digital/VOD viewing. Austin-based actress-turned-filmmaker A Christmas in New Hope represents the feature-length directorial debut of Austin-based actress-turned-filmmaker Julia Barnett, who co-wrote the script with Kathleen Estes. Barnett has since directed the horror film Texas Cult House, which premiered locally during this year’s Austin Film Festival and reunites her with Adrianne Palicki and Ryan Cooper. She plans to direct a sequel to Texas Cult House in 2025. Barnett also has acted in such TV series as Nashville and Fear the Walking Dead. Aired: Nov. 20, 2024.
