Interview:
Joshua Bailey,
director,
"Stolen Kingdom"
Would you sneak into an abandoned Disney World attraction if presented with the opportunity? Directed by former Austinite Joshua Bailey, the documentary Stolen Kingdom offers portraits of the urban explorers who have documented their unauthorized behind-the-scenes visits to such abandoned Disney World attractions as Cranium Command and Discovery Island. Bailey also examines the black market for stolen Disney world items and investigates the 2018 reported theft of Buzzy, an audio-animatronic character that guided Cranium Command visitors through the Epcot attraction from 1989 through 2007. Interviewees include famed Disney World backstage blogger and former cast member Dave “Hoot Gibson” Ensign, controversial YouTube urban explorer Matt Sonswa, and social media star “BackDoorDisney,”, aka Patrick Spike, who lost his Disney World job after his 2019 arrest and subsequent plea deal related to charges of stealing costumes and wigs from The Haunted Mansion ride. Stolen Kingdom will screen at 1:30 p.m. June 7 at the Alamo South Lamar with director Joshua Bailey in attendance. Stolen Kingdom is currently available to stream at the Letterboxd Video Store and will be available for digital/on-demand viewing beginning June 16. Tampa-born Joshua Bailey makes his feature-length directorial debut with Stolen Kingdom, which he worked on while living in Austin.
