Interview:
John Spottswood Moore,
director,
"When We Were Live"
A documentary more than a decade in the making, Austin-based filmmaker John Spottswood Moore’s When We Were Live dives deep into the early years of Austin Community Television, now known as Austin Public. Moore celebrates some of the personalities that kept viewers tuned into ACTV in the 1980s and 1990s—including dating advice guru Livia, drag queen/cooking show host Carmen Banana, and music aficionado Dave Prewitt—as well as some of the news stories and events that defined Austin during the final decades of the 20th century. When We Were Live combines show clips and new interviews that offer invaluable insight into the formative years of Austin public-access television. When We Were Live will screen at 2:30 p.m. Sept. 19 and at 11:40 a.m. Sept. 22 at the Alamo South Lamar during this year’s Fantastic Fest. Austin-based filmmaker John Spottswood Moore previously directed the Obsessive Compulsive Disorder-themed student documentary Once Again. He worked as a staff video editor at Rooster Teeth and he currently serves as a professor of Radio-Television-Film at Austin Community College.
