Interview:
Jean Anne Lauer,
director of Short Film Programming,
Fantastic Fest 2025 Shorts Program
As part of its 20th anniversary festivities, this year’s Fantastic Fest will include two special shorts programs, Alums And Other Demons and Fantastic India. Dedicated to some of the filmmakers whose work has screened over the past two decades at the genre festival, Alums And Other Demons features new short films by Austin-based horror comedy virtuoso Chris McInroy and masters of the mind-bender Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benson, among others. Programmed in partnership with the Austin-based Indie Meme and the Wench Film Festival, the regional shorts package Fantastic India places a focus on new or recent genre offerings from India or by filmmakers of Indian origin, including Rajas & the Wolf Girl by Austin-based animator Nidhi Reddy. Fantastic Fest, which runs Sept. 18-25 at the Alamo South Lamar, will also include its traditional shorts programs Fantastic Shorts, Short Fuse, Shorts With Legs, and the animated Drawn and Quartered. Also, this year’s Burnt Ends sidebar, which places an emphasis on the micro-budgeted weird and the wonderful, features a combination of live-action and animated shorts.
Note: Jean Anne Lauer also serves as the president of the KOOP Radio 91.7 FM Board of Directors. Aired: Sept. 15, 2025. Web sites: http://fantasticfest.com/ https://www.facebook.com/fantasticfest |
