Interview:
Gia Coppola,
director,
"The Last Showgirl"
![]() Directed by Gia Coppola from a script by Kate Gersten, The Last Showgirl stars Pamela Anderson as a veteran Las Vegas performer facing an uncertain future. For three decades, Shelly Gardner (Anderson) has lived her dream life as a showgirl in the Las Vegas Strip theatrical revue Le Razzle Dazzle. But after a closing date is announced for Le Razzle Dazzle, the 57-year-old showgirl struggles to write herself a second act in a cruel city that favors youth and beauty. Compounding matters: Shelly’s estranged daughter Hannah (Billie Lourd) reenters her life, forcing her to confront the decision she made years earlier to choose her parent over motherhood. The supporting cast includes Jamie Lee Curtis as former showgirl and Shelly’s best friend Annette; Dave Bautista as Le Razzle Dazzle producer Eddie; and Brenda Song and Kiernan Shipka as showgirls Mary-Anne and Jodie, respectively. The Last Showgirl, which premiered locally during last year’s Austin Film Festival, opened Jan. 10 in Austin theaters. Gia Coppola, the granddaughter of Francis Ford Coppola, previously directed the 2013 drama Palo Alto and the 2020 streaming media satire Mainstream. Aired: Jan. 15, 2025.
