In co-writer/director Ellen Rodnianski’s Austin and Elgin-shot teen drama American Baby, 15-year-old high school student Oly (Me’s Abigail Pniowsky) finds her life turned upside down when she becomes pregnant. Oly immediately feels abandoned by her religious Ukrainian mother, her best friend, and the teenage father of her unborn child. Shunned at school and at church, Oly faces an uncertain future as she struggles on her own to make some of the most important decisions of her young life. American Baby will screen at 7:10 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Rollins Theatre at the Long Center and at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 28 at the Galaxy Theatres Austin. American Baby represents New York-based Ellen Rodnianski’s feature-length directorial debut. The Ukrainian-American filmmaker based American Baby on her Russian narrative short Bolezn rosta, which she co-wrote with Tanya Leonova.
