"I Took the Road Less Traveled"
There’s no quitting in Diego “Bull” Avello. Which explains why the Spanish native and former Austinite branded his loud and proud style of music as “stubborn rock.” Directed by Austin-based filmmaker J. Budro Partida, I Took the Road Less Traveled details how “Bull” has spent a lifetime overcoming one obstacle after another in his pursuit of both rock ‘n’ roll immortality and the American Dream. The documentary chronicles Bull’s upbringing in Cangas del Narcea in Asturias, Spain, where he fell in love with American rock ‘n’ roll at a young age; the personal and financial sacrifices he made to become and remain a full-time musician; his decision to immigrate to the United States; the unexpected need to first established himself in Mexico; and, finally, the move to Austin to rock out in the United States and to meet the requirements of his exceptional artist visa. I Took the Road Less Traveled will screen at 8 p.m. Jan. 29 at the AFS Cinema during the Austin Revolution Film Festival. The documentary takes its title from Bull y los Búfalos’ 2020 single “Road Less Traveled (First Edition)." Spanish native and former Austinite Diego “Bull” Avello, who relocated to Nashville in 2024, has released with his band Bull y los Búfalos the English-language albums “Animal” and “Handmade (Live in Texas),” the Spanish-language albums “¿Quién Dijo Miedo?” and “Más Tiempo Que Vida,” and the EP “Fury.” Austin-based filmmaker J. Budro Partida previously directed the 2024 documentary Bloody & Bruised: The Untold Story of the Back Room, the short documentary Telling the Saxon Story, the TV special Professor Griffin's Midnight Theatre, and multiple music videos.
