After eight years of hosting pop-up screenings in and around Austin, the Hyperreal Film Club finally has a home it can call its own. On Tuesday, Sept. 3, the Hyperreal Film Club opens the doors to its new clubhouse and 63-seat screening space at 301 Chicon Street. To celebrate, the Hyperreal Film Club presents four nights of secret screenings, from Sept. 3 through Sept. 6 before launching its Tuesday-Friday mix of arthouse and cult selections, mainstream hits, family films, new offerings, and short films made by local filmmakers. Highlights include Support the Girls on Sept. 18 with writer/director Andrew Bujalski in attendance and the new family independent film Fantasy A Gets a Mattress on Sept. 27 with cast and crew in attendance. In addition, the Hyperreal Film Club wraps up its Paramount Summer Classic Film Series program at the Paramount Theatre with a 70mm screening of the Walter Hill rock ’n’ roll fable Streets of Fire at 7 p.m. Aug. 31. The Hyperreal Film Club also publishes online journals and zines. Aired: Aug. 28, 2024. Web sites: https://hyperrealfilm.club/ https://www.facebook.com/hyperrealfilmclub/ |
