![]() Directed by actor-turned-filmmaker David Henrie, the family-friendly supernatural chiller Monster Summer finds a malevolent entity preying upon the teenage population of Martha's Vineyard. Noah Reed (The Black Phone's Mason Thames), who wants to follow in his late father's footsteps and become a journalist, teams up with retired cop Gene Carruthers (Mel Gibson) to investigate the spate of attacks that have left each young victim in a near-catatonic state. Reed's prime suspect? A mysterious woman (Lorraine Bracco) who rents a guest room from Reed's mother. Monster Summer also stars The Sandlot's Patrick Renna and Kevin James, who appeared in Grown Ups 2, Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, and Little Boy with Monster Summer director David Henrie. Monster Summer opened Oct. 4 in theaters. David Henrie previously directed the 2020 teen comedy This is the Year after spending more than 20 years after as an actor. Henrie rose to fame as Justin Russo in the Disney Channel sitcom The Wizard of Waverly Place, which costarred Selena Gomez as his sister Alex. He also appeared in That's So Raven and How I Met Your Mother as well as executive produced the Netflix animated series A Tale Dark & Grim. This past summer, Henrie portrayed the young Ronald Reagan in the biopic Reagan. He will next reprise his role of Justin Russo in Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, which premieres Oct. 29 on the Disney Channel.
