"Cinema Recomposed - Year One:
The Work of Max Fleischer"
The Austin-based Golden Hornet continues its mission to develop and support young composers with its new program, Cinema Recomposed. A collaboration between Golden Hornet and the Austin-based American Genre Film Archive (AGFA), the Cinema Recomposed program offers young composers the opportunity to create new scores for silent films. For Golden Hornet’s inaugural program, Cinema Recomposed – Year One: The Work of Max Fleischer, seven composers were each commissioned to score an animated short by the legendarily Max Fleischer in partnership with AGFA and Fleischer Studios. Robert Rodriguez, Carter Burwell, Kid Koala, Alexis Marsh, and Golden Hornet co-founder/artistic director Graham Reynolds were among the mentors assigned to the composers, each aged between 17 and 24 and some are graduates of Golden Hornet’s Young Composer Collective. The Invoke String Quartet will perform the seven scores during the Cinema Recomposed – Year One: The Work of Max Fleischer world premiere screening at 11:50 a.m. Sept. 21 at the Alamo South Lamar during Fantastic Fest.
Note: Somesh Yatham is an Austin native and Fiona Gehrke is a former Austinite. Aired: Sept. 17, 2025. Web sites: https://www.goldenhornet.org/cinemarecomposed http://fantasticfest.com/ https://www.facebook.com/fantasticfest |
