Interview:
Bryan Bertino,
writer/director,
"Vicious"
The question posed by Austin-based writer/director Bryan Bertino’s supernatural chiller Vicious is not what’s inside the mysterious box left in Dakota Fanning’s possession—but what her Polly must place inside it. As she prepares for a job interview, Fanning’s emotionally scarred and socially isolated Polly answers the door to a stranger. Within minutes, the stranger hands Polly the box and tells her she is going to die—unless she places inside it three objects of personal significance to satisfy its controlling malevolent force. In order to survive the night, Polly must find something she hates, something she needs, and something she loves. Vicious, which received its world premiere at this year’s Fantastic Fest, will debut Oct. 10 on Paramount+. Texas-born Bryan Bertino previously directed the The Strangers (2008), Mockingbird, The Monster, and The Dark and The Wicked. He also co-wrote The Strangers: Prey at Night.
